Athens gives new meaning to the word nightlife. Whether you start with dinner and then hit the clubs, or begin with a couple of drinks and then make your way to one of the many bouzoukia (clubs specializing in Greek music played on bouzoukis), the city is sure to keep you entertained until the early hours. Athens has a lively nightlife scene that is just not limited to the indoors. There is entertainment in the streets and terraces as well as in the hundreds of bars, tavernas and clubs throughout the city. Bars stay open until around 4:00am and nightclubs until 4:00am - 6:00am. Most of the bars and clubs don’t get going to midnight! People usually have their dinner at 9:00 or 10:00. Winter is the best time to enjoy the full range of after-dark entertainment because many establishments follow the tourists out to the islands during the summer.
